What is the main difference between the AFF and the SFF boards?

There are two main considerations when comparing the AFF with the SFF.  Firstly, the form factor. The AFF stands for Arduino Form Factor whereas the SFF stands for Small Form Factor. When we say small form factor, we mean it (50 mm x 25.4mm)Secondly, these form factor differences have implications for the attached antenna. The AFF has a built-in M8Q GPS antenna implying that you are not able to attach your own. The SFF does not have a built-in antenna, although it comes with a GPS antenna pre-installed. You can switch this antenna with your own as it is attached through a U.FL connector

What kind of board supports which networks?

NB-IoT / LTE-M

  • The N211 boards (AFF/SFF) support NB-IoT in Europe/South Africa and a few other areas (bands 8, 20)
  • The R410M boards (AFF/SFF) support NB-IoT, LTE-M worldwide (all bands)
  • The R412M Boards (AFF/SFF) support NB-IoT, LTE-M worldwide, with 2G fallback (all bands)

LoRa

  • Our SODAQ ONE and ExpLoRer board both support LoRa (however, you must select if you want 868 or 915 MHz variants)
How can I find out which board is suitable for my project?

Every project should be looked at with a case-by-case basis to truly fit the context with an appropriate solution. To start, we highly recommend checking out our support page: https://support.sodaq.com, here you can find all technical information on the device that is available. 

Many of our clients consider a range of variables for their projects. Some of these include (but are not limited to): battery life, form factor, network type, i2c connectors and a range of others. Such information will be visible on the support page as we mentioned above. Regarding battery life, LoRa is often deployed for low-powered solutions as it requires less energy than NB-IoT/LTE-M. The trade off is that LoRa requires a gateway and often the range of such gateways restricts certain solutions. This example highlights why it is important to look at every solution on a case by case basis. I have a concept on what I want to make but don’t know how to approach it. Could someone help me?

For assistance in your project we highly recommend checking out our support page, this should give some more information about the board. This can be found at https://support.sodaq.com. We also recommend looking at our forum where you can either make your own post or find different use cases which might provide the inspiration for your project. To upgrade your firmware please send an email to [email protected], here we will supply you with the contact person who will be able to provide you with the firmware.

What is our vision?

Our competence lies in the environmental Internet of Things. This means that we create scalable solutions to connect things outdoors. Harnessing the power of the sun to deploy our solutions is imperative to what we are doing at SODAQ. We want to create a smarter environment, that can sense what’s going on and tell us how to make better decisions.

Delivery
Which couriers do we use and how long does it take before my shipment arrives?

If you create your order before 14:30 (CEST) we will aim to ship your order the same day. Shipment times differ per location. Within the Netherlands, we have chosen for PostNL and as such, your parcel will likely arrive the day after placing your order. When making shipments across Europe we use the courier UPS. Depending on the time of your order, the parcel should be delivered between 2-5 working days. When placing an order outside of Europe, we have chosen to use Skynet. Delivery should be between 3-5 working days.

Please note that depending on your countries customs, shipping times can be slightly delayed. Unfortunately, this is not in our control but we are always willing to get a status update for you if you require. 

How do we ensure our products don’t get damaged during shipment?

To ensure your device does not get statically charged, we pack our boards in an anti-static bag. To protect the content we also use a certain amount of bubble plastic wrapping inside of a box that does not allow for much movement which should ensure the content does not get damaged. We do our best to recycle and only use what we need :)

Returns & refunds
What is the policy in returning and refunding our products?

Should your device be damaged, please reach out to us at [email protected] where we can help you find a solution. We often choose to switch out the board for a new one. That being said, should the damage not be our responsibility we might choose to charge you for a new device. Should your device be broken during your project we always appreciate you returning your device to us so we can investigate the matter and possibly avoid this with an update or new revision.

I think my current board is damaged, can I trade it for a new one?

As mentioned, we often choose to replace your product for a new one should there be damages. Please send us the information and the encountered problem to [email protected] this way we can find a fitting solution.

How can I request a refund?

Please send the encountered issue and reason to [email protected], we will try and help the fitting solution.
